*Eco-Print is also known as botanical printing. Cedar Cottage Fiberworks' process uses natural fibers – cotton, wool, and silk; mordants appropriate for the fiber type; natural dyes; and iron. Pieces are typically created “2 for 1,” which results in mirror images with one brighter color and the other a darker or “saddened” color. Tannin-rich leaves are placed on one piece of fabric; it is then covered with another piece of fabric the same size that has been dipped in an iron-water solution. This fabric sandwich is then rolled on a wooden dowel rod, wrapped tightly with an ace bandage, and then steamed for 2-3 hours. The leaves imprint on the fabric, discharging various colors. Unfortunately, not all leaves will work with this process, but the ones that do are magical!
