Part-Time Store Clerk:

Do you love nature and art? Do you enjoy helping people become closer with nature? Nature Niche is a brick-and-mortar and e-commerce store in Midland, MI that aims to help people be good stewards of the environment and connect with nature. We sell a wide selection of backyard bird feeding and pollinator support supplies, garden art, nature art, and native plants, as well as provide environmental education to our customers. We are members of the Midland Business Alliance, and our employees are eligible to apply for Alliance Awards, annual college scholarships for attending local institutions of higher learning.

We are seeking a part-time store clerk to join our team 15-25 hours per week!

We specifically seek out team members who love to learn, are energetic, organized, detail-oriented, enjoy physical labor, have excellent interpersonal skills, and are team players. This is a hybrid role with warehouse inventory, shipping support, and customer facing responsibilities. Hours of Work:

Shifts will be scheduled between 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with a half hour lunch break. Additional hours available on occasion, especially during peak seasons and staff vacations. One to two Saturday shifts per month will be required, with a compensatory weekday off, with shifts scheduled 4-5 days/week.

Pay:

From $15.00/hour, based on level of experience and skills.

Primary Duties:

  • Work with shipping lead to pull customer orders from our warehouse and retail floor using bins and a rolling cart.
  • Verify accuracy of pulled items and monitor incoming online orders using a Shopify-based platform. Electronics include iPads and desktop computers.
  • Carrying and moving boxes of inventory or bags of bird feed weighing up to 40 lbs throughout the day.
  • Work with the warehouse lead to inspect, receive, and re-stock inventory to our warehouse and retail floor.
  • Operating a Shopify-based point of sale (POS) system to check out customers in-store.
  • Support the store manager in serving customers by helping them select and troubleshoot products both in-store and online. Share product knowledge with customers to increase their understanding and encourage proper use.
  • General store and warehouse upkeep and breaking down boxes for recycling or reuse.

Secondary Duties:

  • Provide basic customer service for inbound calls and emails.
  • Package and ship routine online orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to pick up and carry up to 40-lb boxes/bags of inventory and have the physical ability to wrangle a tape gun, climb a step ladder and lift boxes overhead, and work on your feet much of the day.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must exhibit good team working skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to use a computer and iPad to pick and ship orders and assist customers.
  • Interest in and knowledge about backyard nature, wildlife habitat enhancement, and/or ecological restoration (wild bird feeding, pollinator support, native plants, garden and wildlife art, etc.) and a willingness to learn more!
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. This includes listening to customer concerns and goals, problem solving on the fly, and offering thoughtful advice to customers.
  • High attention to detail when communicating with customers, pulling orders, and processing inventory.
