Without the protection of the shell, sunflower hearts and chips may quickly spoil and may harbor dangerous bacteria and mold. It’s important to offer no more than can be eaten in a day or two and avoid using in tube feeders where moisture can accumulate--spread over a tray with good drainage and a protective covering, feeders with good airflow, or mix with Feeder Fresh seed protector for best results.
