It gives the humming birds a little shade, and protects the humming bird feeder from the droppings of birds perched above it as well as those passing overhead on their way to the nearby suet feeder. A good product!

I ordered the hummer helmet because I thought it would help with the bigger birds by keeping them off the hummingbird feeder - it doesn’t but it does protect the nectar from the elements. Works well - unless the wind is really blowing.

Thank you for your review! Yes, as mentioned in the description this particular guard is just rated for the weather. It is not meant to deter other birds. The red color can help bring hummingbirds in to your feeder. We are glad to hear that it is working as it's supposed to!

Great product

I purchased two of these for my two hummingbird feeders and they are just terrific. They help to keep the sun off the feeder and add a lot of the all-important red color. The only suggestion I would make is to include a lock washer that would go between the little nut on the inside and the helmet to make sure that the nut stays tight. Otherwise great product, great service, great shipping.
