Good, but could be even better.

I have attracted pigeons, so I was mostly excited about this feeder because it had the ability to use the dove guard (sold separately). This is a solid, well made tray feeder, but although the tray height already looks substantial, it could still use another inch or so in height to prevent seed from spilling onto the ground. While this feeder has prevented larger birds from perching, these larger birds just scavenge the food that spills when smaller birds are eating.

The Cardinals actually came!!

We were tired of putting sunflower seeds on tray feeders - which the cardinal love -- and have the pigeons eat the seeds before the cardinals could even show up. I was skeptical about a tray enclosed with a cage - Why would a bird fly INTO a cage? But they watched the curious and fearless chickadees, and somewhat more timid titmouse fly happily in and out. Finally they gave it a try. The cardinals now love it. So do we. The pigeons not so much.

Nice addition to our garden feeding station. Birds love do the squirrels!
