Turn your bird garden into a haven for flickers with this Recycled Plastic Flicker House. Offering shelter to these specific birds not only helps them maintain their populations; it also allows you to monitor their nesting activities for a fun new hobby. Offer flickers a winter roosting spot and spring nesting location made specifically for them by placing this polywood recycled plastic flicker house in your backyard. Make sure you put it up well before breeding season. (For Flickers that usually starts in late April into May in the USA.)

The slanted roof overhangs the roost, preventing water from reaching the interior, and the generous, 2.5" diameter entry hole is great for flickers and small woodpeckers. Impressed, horizontal lines beneath this entry create gripping spots for fledgling egress. Ventilation holes and a gap near the top of the deep shelter help air flow through it, and small holes in the floor provide drainage. Use the predrilled holes at the top and base of the extended back panel to affix this item against a live or dead tree, pole, or post, and periodically check the birds by opening the top half of the front panel.

Made by Amish craftsmen, this home will certainly remain usable and lovely for many seasons, while decreasing landfill waste.

Made in the USA.

Installing Your Flicker House:

  • Place the box in a shady area, near sparsely scattered trees, with an open flyway.
  • To prevent squirrels from using the box, place the box on a pole equipped with a baffle at least 10' from the nearest tree (the distance most squirrels will jump).
  • Mount the box so that it is angled slightly forward to help the chicks climb out.
  • European Starlings can usurp cavities occupied by flickers even when additional nest boxes are offered nearby. Therefore, management of European Starlings may be necessary for flickers to be successful in some areas.

Special Note: Because flickers forage primarily on the ground, avoid treating lawns and flowerbeds with any chemicals.

Functional unique opening

I do like this design with the upper half of the front opening because it allows you to easily fill with pine shavings. Yes, it will accommodate a Kestrel sized Van Ert trap. I Drilled pilot holes from the outside of the front. You have to insert the trap by feel, so experience pays off. The nest box also has mesh below the entrance hole for the nestlings to climb out. Thickness of panels is 1/2”. Fit and finish is very good and stainless screws are used. I put a Blink camera in mine and have it on a conduit pole that extends to 10’. I actually decided to get a Flicker box because a Flicker was interested in my Kestrel/Screech Owl Box.
