A simple mix of fine sunflower chips and Nyjer® formulated specifically for small songbirds like goldfinches.

Without the protection of the shell, sunflower chips may quickly spoil and may harbor dangerous bacteria and mold.  Nyjer® seed is also generally more prone to caking.  It’s important to offer no more than can be eaten in a day or two and avoid using in tube feeders where moisture can accumulate--spread over a stationary tray with good drainage and a protective covering, feeders with good airflow, or mix with Feeder Fresh seed protector for best results.

All the finches love this bird feed!

Gold finches aren't here right now, they will be here in late winter or early spring, but, I will put some out for them when they get here. Chickadees, Purple finches, House finches and Spice finches are here now, and they LOVE it! I just pour a little into my wild bird feed and mix it in.

It's nice to finally find a seed blend the finches will actually eat. I have mostly gold and house finches & they're on the feeder all the time. Using the feeder fresh with it keeps the seed dry and fresh, too. I usually get the 20 lb. bag and have no worries about the seed going bad.

I wasn’t quite prepared for the overwhelmingly positive reaction of the finches to this food. They went nuts over it. I guess they really like the very small sunflower kernels mixed in it. About four times the traffic to the feeder with this mix, compared to the feeder, next to it, with regular seed.

I purchased the seed and a thistle feeder thinking the Goldfinches would like it better than the sunflower meats I was feeding. Not so. They much prefer the sunflower. The sunflower feeder is easily twice the size of the thistle feeder. I refill the sunflower at least every other day. The thistle feeder is still half full from it's first fill weeks ago.

Thanks for providing feedback on the finch favorite seed. Since it's half chopped sunflower hearts and half nyjer seed, I'm surprised they aren't eating it faster. Are the feeders set up in the same location?  If not, it can sometimes take several weeks for birds to find and start using a new feeder. 
Sunflower hearts are a favorite of many bird species, so I can see that moving quickly.  The only thing I can think to suggest is to check the condition of the seed in the petite thistle feeder, if you haven't already and it's been sitting for several weeks.  If the seed starts to cake and get stale and moldy, the birds will surely ignore it and eat the fresh sunflower hearts you're providing.
