Perfect

I love my chickadee / wren nesting box. It is beautiful, well made and easy to clean.

Chickadee/nuthatch nest box

I use to build my own nest boxes but they were never as good as the one I bought from Nature Niche. Thick-walled, good joints, brass screws should provide my brown- headed nuthatches with a superior dry and warm place to successfully raise the squeaky young. Will particularly provide a good place for these little birds to roost on very cold nights!

Have had several birds checking it out since installation. Would buy again. Thank you!

Very nice

I used to restore instruments, and work at a very high level, and i couldn't have done a better job!!

Does this chickadee / wren nesting box need to be stained or painted before being used?

Nature Niche

No, we recommend that you keep your nest box unpainted and/or unstained. Per the Cornell Lab of Ornathology, while there are no conclusive studies that determine whether residual fumes from paint or pressure treatment can harm the birds we believe it is best to err on the side of caution.

How does the front of the box swing upwards for clean out access? I don’t see any way to do that without removing the screws. What am I missing? Thanks!

Nature Niche

If you click the video shown in the photo area it shows how the box opens. There's a metal pull pin that you can take out, and then the front panel will swing upward for easy cleaning access.

Thank you for your interest!

Is there drainage provided? Can you provide more details on this box?

Nature Niche

Yes, there are 0.5" wide drainage triangles cut in each of the four floor corners. Ventilation is provided by 0.5" holes beneath either side of the slanted roof. The cedar walls are over 0.75" thick and roughened on the outside but sanded smooth on the inside. The front door opens upward, rotating from the top with a 1" diameter entry hole and held shut with a side pin. You might want to rough up the wood beneath the hole a little to help fledglings exit. Overall dimensions are 13.5" total height, 8" total depth, and 6" total width. Interior dimensions are just over 3.5" wide by 4.5" deep and 7.5"-8" high.
