Growing close to Great Lakes shorelines in cool, damp lakeshore air, dwarf lake iris is found on sand or in thin soil. This rare plant is a federally threatened species due to habitat loss caused by lakeshore development and is endangered in portions of its range. Native plants, like dwarf lake iris, support wildlife habitat and promote biodiversity.
