How the Hot Pepper Works: Birds' pain receptors are different from those of mammals, and they are not triggered by the capsaicin in hot peppers. This product works well deterring mammals most of the time. Rarely, a certain belligerent or desperate individual will decide it doesn't mind the heat and eat the seed anyway.
Best Use: Hot pepper bird feed products are best used when you are trying to "squirrel-proof" the existing feeder you already own and in landscapes with enough launching points to make baffled pole systems and hanging baffles ineffective. We recommend placing the item under a weather guard in a protected location to minimize degradation of the gelatin and movement of small particles from windy weather. Avoid using where pets or children might gain access to the food.
