A truly innovative squirrel-proof suet bird feeder. No more greasy fingers with mess-free suet loading. Two 5 x 5 suet cakes allow a number of woodpeckers, nuthatches, titmice and chickadees to feed at the same time. No suet goes wasted: two crumb ports will catch the suet that birds drop. This suet feeder is weight-adjustable so that you can control which size birds will feed there.

Here are some things to check/implement with your Squirrel Buster Suet Feeder to make it truly squirrel-proof for adult red and gray squirrels (please note that juvenile red squirrels and chipmunks can sometimes access seed due to their light weight):

1) Observe the manufacturer's stated installation clearances, e.g. install the feeder with 18" of clearance between top of feeder and the branch it is hanging on, 18" of clearance from launching points below the feeder, and 18" radius of clearance around the sides of the feeder;

2) Make sure the negative grip tube is in place on the hanging wire right against the top of the feeder to prevent squirrels from hanging by their hind legs from the wire.

DISCLAIMER: This feeder will NOT deter Grackles, Starlings, juvenile Red/Douglas/Flying Squirrels, Chipmunks, Possums, Bears, Deer, or Raccoons. Please bring your feeder in at night to prevent night visitors from emptying and destroying your feeder.

It works!

My squirrels have finally met their match!

I have several bird feeders. I also have several squirrel feeders. I don’t mind the squirrels..for the most part. Unfortunately, they were chowing down on my old suet feeder and going thru 2 suet cakes in a few days!! They chewed through it and destroyed my old suet feeders. Plus, suet can get $$$ and I knew had to make a change.
Enter Brome Squirrel Buster suet feeder! It works!! This product does exactly what it says it does. It’s well made, easy to clean, easy to assemble. They have videos if you aren’t sure how..
I’m very satisfied with this purchase. It’s the Fort Knox of suet feeders! The squirrels hate it…they told me to give 1 star. The birds give it 5 stars. Choose wisely!

Cant imagine our yard without it anymore - birds love it, squirrels despise it.

This feeder has already paid for itself in suet savings. Suet was a treat that never lasted more than a day or two for us, with starlings and squirrels quickly consuming it. This has completely solved those problems. We can keep suet out every day, and the woodpeckers have never been happier. The feeder closes under the weight of non-birds, or under the quick probing motions of the starlings.

I originally hung this from a simple hook, and we had a small problem where some animal was able to twist the feeder until it broke the rod with the hole for the hanging wire. Brome was amazingly helpful and send a replacement part quickly.

We then hung it on a spinning carabiner, but the raccoons figured out how to open it (that's right, we saw them do it - the clever little things). So a locking spinning carabiner finally did the tick (picture of the type we used attached).

So glad you and the birds are enjoying this feeder! Thank you very much for sharing your lessons learned, too!

Flickers OK Too

After a year or so experience I am happy to report the feeder works well, very well in fact. Prior to our purchase I called customer support asking if Flickers would be too heavy and not be able to get the suet. The staff, honest and friendly, could not say for sure. Well, we are pleased to report flickers can use the feeder with no problem.

Great suet feeder!

We love this suet feeder. It does keep out bigger birds and squirrels. Before, the starlings would decimate it before any other birds could get to it. Now the smaller birds are having a feast!

Best suet feeder ever

I love this feeder. My suet lasts longer for the birds to enjoy instead of squirrels. Chipmunks still are able to eat from it but much less. It is so easy to fill and tension can be adjusted for weight of birds.

It really works!

It works IF you follow the instructions about having a certain amount of space between it and other things the squirrels could use. They still try! I have seen some amazing parkour from them; once in a while they set it swinging but cannot get at it. The birds love it!

Squirrel defeater

The birds have been using the feeder without problems. Haven't seen a squirrel trying to get on it . The food last longer for my birds since the squirrels can't get on it.

Birds Love It!

I was skeptical ... as we have voracious squirrels. But not a one on our new suet feeder! I had tried hot pepper suet, as squirrels have taste buds and birds do not. Squirrels loved it. I tried hot sauce on the suet but rain washed it off and squirrels feasted. Hooray for this one!

No birds

It works great for squirrel busting, unfortunately birds stay clear of this suet feeder, I occasionally get a woodpecker or a nuthatch went before I had what a huge amount of birds coming to my feeders.

Thanks for your feedback. Looks like you've had the feeder for about 10 days. It can sometimes take the birds several weeks to adjust to a new type of feeder. I suggest checking the weight control spring's tension to make sure that's set in a good place. It may take a little more time before you see the volume of use you had before, but I am hopeful you will. Busted!!!!

The birds are slowly getting used to this feeder. I haven’t seen them on it but they have been because there is less suet.NOT ONE RASCALLY SQUIRRELL!!!! Thank you, Brome Squirrel Busters!!!

Effective

Well built and effective. Squirrels finally made the attempt after about a week of study. Came down from the top but soon realized that the store was closed an locked. Very few attempts now allowing the birds to feed unharnessed.

Keeps the squirrels at bay. A little difficult to see how much suet is left from the house.

Are pileated woodpeckers able to eat from this feeder?

I have heard that they have a hard time using this feeder because they are such a big bird (and heavier than the typical songbird and smaller woodpecker). The downy, hairy, red-bellied woodpeckers and others of similar size are able to use it. If you are trying to accomodate a pileated woodpecker we have a double tail prop suet feeder made especially with them in mind. We also have standard suet size Flaming Feast Hot Cakes that the your birds will enjoy and your squirrels will not.

How do you adjust the feeder to keep away Starlings & those parasitic Cowbirds?
