Wonderful pole for bird feeder

I was able to install it myself by screwing it into the ground. The fitting was perfect for our feeders pole mount (1'). We have since ordered the special squirrel baffle that fits the pole. It should arrive tomorrow. Our Kiwibit feeder is heavy and sturdy as is the pole. The pole supports it with no problem. We did not use the third piece. Too high for me to reach.

Great set with a few adjustments

I bought this pole system to use with a large covered platform feeder. The main piece that goes into the ground was easy to install and very sturdy as it’s 20” long. When I started adding the pole pieces they were wobbly. I had to put one piece of electrical tape around each swaged end of pole and now they are nice and snug and the pole stands up straight, even with a heavy covered platform feeder on it. I found it a little too tall (80” and I’m only 63” tall) so I bought a shorter pole piece to replace the 3rd piece that came with the set. This baffle is the best I've seen. The solid metal collar with adjustable screws for easy assembly is genius. The system works, and looks, great! The birdies are very happy.

Thank you for taking the time to review! We are so glad to hear the pole system is working as intented. Yes, the poles are made to provide a little wiggle room as the manufacturer wanted people to be able to interchange with their older pole extentions that were a little different in size. The black electrical tape is a great solution for any bit of wobble, and one that the manufacturer recommends! Happy bird feeding!

Great pole set

The poles are everything you could ask for, made of sturdy metal sections that fit together eactly as intended. All the metal parts have a baked-on coat; the chances of rust should be minimal. Worth every penny. As a bonus, all the packaging was recyclable paper and cardboard.

Sturdy

This pole is very sturdy in our windy area. I purchased the pole for a new camera bird feeder I received for Christmas. I would purchase this again. It arrived quick.

The only pole that stands up to wind!

This is a necessary investment for any birder who lives in a windy climate. It’s incredibly secure once installed. It will hold up to 30mph+ wind gusts plus daily wind that we get here in Texas throughout the year. I won’t buy any other pole for my feeders/bird houses.

Strong and Sturdy

This one was much more robust than the previous one we bought, only down side was I had to drill (4) new holes to mount to the Bird Buddy, not a big deal for me , but maybe an issue for someone else.

Great pole

Sturdy. Relatively easy to install. I recommend checking plumb often. After inserting screw driver as handle, insert pole sections to rest on screwdriver and hand tighten bolt. Put level against pole every few turns and adjust angle while turning. Any vertical lean will be increased by the weight of feeder.

Bird feeder pole set

The following is my comment about the pole set that I sent directly to Erva Tool. I did not get a reply from them.
"I purchased your 5-piece Feeder Pole Set with Twist-In Ground Socket online from Nature Niche in Michigan. When I opened the box, I was really impressed with the quality of the poles. The material is thick and substantial. The weld is continuous and clean. The finish appears to be long-lasting. And a plus is that it's made in the USA. But, when I began to install the pole, I found the swaged end was a bit smaller than the opening in the female end of the pole. When the three sections were assembled and stood up, they waved in the air like a wet noodle. The top moved at least +/- an inch. I tried shimming at the base to no avail. The pole waved around and made it impossible to get it to stand straight up. I puzzled over the problem for a while and decided the best solution would be to glue the sections together using a high-strength epoxy. I was able to get the assembly straight by laying it on the floor and clamping it to a flat upright surface. The next morning, I had a sturdy, straight one-piece pole. I was then able to insert it into the socket using a thin plastic shim for adjustment and got it perfectly straight up. I also reversed the position of the pole from your instructions so the swaged end would face upward so water could not enter at the seam. To ease this problem, I would suggest you make the swaged end at least a tap fit into the female end or, even better, make the connection threaded.
Your product is great, however it needs to be tweaked a bit to make it better. I look forward to a long life for my new bird feeder pole."

Robert Petkash

Thanks for sharing that feedback and for sending it to Erva directly. They may not have responded, but I suspect they will consider your suggestions. I imagine they avoid the screw together assembly, because that is very hard to keep consistent across batches and years of products and harder to disassemble over time. Also likely drives the cost of the product up. Here's what they have told us about why and how to resolve the sometimes loose slip fit issue:
The reason for the sometimes looser fit is that Erva tries to maintain a sizing sweet spot from production run to production run. They could achieve a perfect fit, if they ran just one batch. The trouble is there is variation in size for this tubing (to say nothing of batches in past years - still in the field), and the next batch from the vendor might be off a couple of thousandths of an inch. They choose to err on the side of a looser fit, because customers sometimes add sections years after the original purchase, and they want to be sure they will fit.
To fix the loose slip fit, cut a 1' piece of electrical tape and apply it to the swaged portion of the pole close to the end. If it's still loose, cut a second or larger piece of electrical tape and apply. This will definitely fix the problem.
Hope this explanation helps!

Feeder Pole Set

Ordered this a while back, along with a new bluebird house and baffle to go with the pole set. This is the best I have ever seen! Very well constructed, easy to put together and a great price. Was impressed with the packaging and the fast shipping... I will definitely order from Nature-Niche again! Thank You Martha for your personal help putting this all together 😊And yes I have bluebirds!!!!

That's wonderful news! I'm so glad the nest box and pole setup are working well and that you are enjoying the bluebirds!

best bird feeder/bird house poles

tried a number of different bird feeder and bird house poles. These are the best. They are stronger, and the depth they screw into the ground makes them very sturdy.

Get what you pay for!

Wanted a strong pole to hold up 4 feeders at a time plus stand up to deer knocking into it and this pole seems strong enough to with stand both. Very well made! Now if the bear comes back I still got problems!

fine pole

It makes for a very sturdy bird feeding station. Other reviews stated that it assembled kind of loose and sloppy. All I did was wrap one thickness of electrical tape around the male ends and assemble. It was nice and tight, I even had to tap it together with a rubber hammer. I would buy again.

squirel wins

squirel wins I love the pole but they get up easily

Glad you like the Erva pole set!  Yes, squirrels readily climb poles and shepherds hooks.  You might consider purchasing one of the shippable squirrel baffles we carry--links are below:
https://nature-niche.com/products/dome-top-squirrel-baffle-and-squirrel-guard
https://nature-niche.com/products/squirrel-baffle-squirrel-guard

Be sure to read and execute the other safeguards to keep the squirrels off, including placing the top of the baffle at least 4' above the ground surface (squirrels are good jumpers!) and locating the pole system at least 10' from lateral or other launching points like tree limbs above the feeder.  If you don't mind feeding them, providing an easily accessible squirrel feeding station away from your bird feeder may also reduce feeding pressure where you don't want them.

Can the height be adjusted or are all sections required?

Nature Niche

You do not have to use all of the pole extension pieces provided. We do also have other size pieces to customize height here: https://nature-niche.com/pages/rapid-search-results?q=pole+extension&filters=%7B%22manufacturer%22%3A%5B%22Erva%22%5D%7D
