As we head into April and get outside more to enjoy nature, it's important to be AWARE of how to prevent tick bites and tick-borne diseases, as ticks are most active April through September. Jill Sklenar, board member of the Michigan Lyme Disease Association, explains what to do to protect yourself and your family: A = Avoid suitable tick habitat and manage your own landscape habitats; W = Wear protective clothing; A = Apply repellents to skin and clothing; R = Remove and dispose of ticks found on your body, clothing, footwear, gear, and pets; and E = Examine bite locations for signs of rash.
