MDARD Request for Comments: Invasive Plant Species Additions Video

Mondays with Martha #263 - MDARD Request for Comments: Invasive Plant Species Additions

This week I discuss the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) request for public comments on the proposed addition of 6 invasive plant species to Michigan's regulations: common buckthorn, glossy buckthorn, callery pear, Japanese barberry, water hyacinth, and water lettuce. I encourage all Michiganders to comment via the online form by Monday February 9, 2026. These species are very problematic and need to be regulated to lessen their numbers across our landscapes and reduce harm to our ecosystems, economy, and human health across the state!
