Whole Peanut Feeder

I think the holes are to big, when the wind blows or when the birds / squirrel sits on the feeder they all fall to the ground.

Thank you for your feedback. The point of the feeder is to allow squirrels and birds like tufted titmice and blue jays to easily pull the whole peanuts out and fly off with them, rather than have to sit there and peck them apart to get them out. They like to cache whole peanuts for eating later when the weather is really bad. I use this feeder at home, and my birds and squirrels have it emptied in about an hour with no mess underneath. This is normal for this feeder, depending on your bird and squirrel populations. If wind is a significant issue, try placing the feeder in a more sheltered location.

I don't have an alternative to offer with smaller spacing for whole peanuts other than the peanut wreath ring:

The trade-off is this one is trickier to fill.

Nice product.

The bluejays and starlings are fighting for the nuts. Even though the experts say
Starlings don’t eat peanuts in the shell, no-one told them yet.

A big hit with our wild birds

I bought this whole peanut feeder to replace one I’d had for awhile, a spring / wreath. The trouble with that one was that the birds stretched it out so peanuts fell right through. They didn’t mind; picked them up from the ground; but I liked the idea of a hanging feeder. This mesh feeder works much better. The holes are big enough that some peanuts spill right through onto the tray, but they don’t fall to the ground, and many stay inside the mesh tube. Our jays (main customers) empty it out fairly fast, but they have something to work on for a little while. I’m happy with that, and so are they.
The one down side is that the clip that holds the top in place is a little stiff; takes two hands to release it and lift the lid to fill. When I'm out in the rain re-filling it, it's slower. That's better than if it were too easy to operate (we have ravens, raccoons, and even the jays who would probably figure it out) but if there were a really ingenious "lock" that I could operate with one hand, but they couldn't solve --- that would get 5 stars.

Blue Jays love it

I bought it for the woodpeckers, but a pair of blue jays stole every peanut in less than an hour.
