August 2024 Native Plant Sale - Growing Season Finale!

August 2024 Native Plant Sale - Growing Season Finale!

Welcome to the information page for our last native plant sale for the 2024 growing season! Let's take advantage of the end of the growing season and make a final push for our pollinators! The end of summer is a great time to plant native vegetation. Temperatures generally decrease while precipitation increases, yielding a month or more of prime growing conditions for plants to settle in and expand their root systems.

Do your site preparation now and get ready to add diverse host, nectar, food, and cover plant species to your yards and gardens. Let's be habitat heroes and provide the pollinators and other wildlife in our landscapes with the native plants they need to thrive! After all, who doesn't enjoy a little backyard wildlife drama?!

We are very excited to help you select native plants on Friday August 23rd through Saturday August 31st. We will not be open Sunday August 25th. Hours are Monday-Friday 10am-6pm and Saturdays 10am-4pm

We will be bringing in late summer and fall blooming wildflowers like sunflowers, asters, and goldenrods; tough groundcovers; and many favorite woody species that were not available earlier this year and/or sold out quickly in May. These trees and shrubs produce important fruit resources that provide our migratory and year-round songbirds with the energy they need for long-distance travel and winter survival. Selected especially for the Midland area, the sale will feature 120+ species of native wildflowers, grasses and sedges, ferns, shrubs, and trees that provide quality habitat for our native pollinators, birds, and other wildlife species. These native plants are of Michigan or Great Lakes Region genotype and were procured through Wildtype Native Plant Nursery in Mason, Michigan. The table linked below outlines the species we plan to offer and where best to plant them. Printed copies are available in-store. Please stop by to pick up a list to help you plan prior to the plant sale.

Native plants provide better wildlife habitat and make a greater visual impact when planted in multiples. We will again be offering a 5% discount when purchasing 6 or more plants! While we don't publish a price list, this year 2" pots are $4.80, 2.5" pots are $6.75, quarts are $9.35 (prickly pear is $15.95), 1 gallon ferns are $26.95, 1 gallon woody plants range from $23.95 - $37.95, and 7 gallon trees are $120.00. If you need species-specific pricing, please give us a call ahead of the sale.

Please note that we do sell out of species on the first day of the sale. If you know specifically what you want and can't make it the first day or don't want to shop in a crowd, please call the store during business hours to place your order over the phone--we will pull and set aside for you.

The sale will occur at our retail location at 2004 W. Wackerly St. Midland, MI and will be held outside along the east side of our building. Bring your native plant questions, and we'll have native plant and pollinator enthusiasts ready to assist you with choosing the right plants for your landscape. If you aren't sure where to start and/or would like detailed assistance selecting plants for your landscape, please consider arranging design office hours with Martha ahead of the sale!

If you have any questions, send us an email at naturenichemi@gmail.com or give us a call at 989-423-1477. We look forward to seeing you soon!
